To receive a new concerto is like starting a new relationship: ambiguous; uncovering mysteries; unfamiliarity moving to intimacy; maintaining your own voice while finding the voice of the other; being careful about comparisons; stretching your limits; finding strength in the fragile. Thank you, Masatora Goya, for the beautiful "A Summer Long Gone." Premier: Tokyo, Feb. 7, 2015 Two of my favorite views. Ready and excited about the annual move from NYC to Tokyo. Many little black dots (♪) in the next 3 months.
Premiers to prepare/play: 1 Clarinet/Mandolin Concerto by Kazuyuki Taguchi with the incredible Go Mochizuki; 2 Clarinet Concertos by Masatora Goya and Paul Anthony Romero; 2 Mandolin & clarinet duos; 1 solo clarinet piece; 1 solo hichiriki piece; 7 duos for clarinet & piano; 2 duos for hichirki and piano. 10 Japan premiers of NYC composers' pieces.
